Learn the Art of Shading and Depth with Pencil
At Dessin Academy, we believe true artistry begins when children learn to see beyond outlines and bring drawings to life with shading. Our Advanced Course – Pencil Shading Level 1 is designed for children in 5th Standard and above or those who have successfully completed Intermediate Course Level 2. This course focuses on the fundamentals of pencil shading, teaching children how to create light, shadow, texture, and depth in their artworks.
What Kids Will Learn in Pencil Shading Level 1
The course introduces students to shading techniques and helps them refine their observation skills. Step by step, children learn to turn simple line drawings into realistic artworks.
Basics of Pencil Shading – Light source, tonal values, and gradients.
Shading Techniques – Hatching, cross-hatching, blending, and stippling.
Object Drawing with Shading – Adding depth to geometric and daily objects.
Nature Study – Trees, leaves, flowers, and landscapes with pencil tones.
Life Study (Introductory Shading) – Birds, animals, and human figures in proportion.
Texture Practice – Creating the effect of wood, fabric, stone, and metal surfaces.
Composition with Shading – Combining elements to create complete artworks.

Discove Our Kindergarten Photo Gallery
Dessin Academy Velachery and Taramani branches were established in the year 2018. Art classes are conducted for both Adults and kids. More than 60 students are enrolled in our branches and are learning the various mediums of art. Our branch students have participated in the "Infinity Art Exhibition 2019" held at Lalit Kala Academy, Chennai.
Our branch students have participated in the "Colourful Art Exhibition 2023" held at Velachery. We encourage our students to take part in various competitions and they have won several awards in India and abroad. We are conducting the following courses

6. Acrylic painting.
The courses are conducted at beginner, fundamental, Intermediate and Advanced levels. Both Online and Offline classes are conducted.
Valarmathi Catherine is a Chennai-based versatile artist. In addition to her master's degree in computer science. She holds a Diploma in painting from the Tamilnadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Music and Fine Arts University, Chennai. Her passion for drawing sparkled at a very early age but her dream was not realized until she joined the Dessin Academy School of Art under the guidance of Mr. And Mrs. Rajendran. She learnt the various techniques and different mediums of drawing. She pursued her studies and later worked as a lecturer till her marriage. She wants to make her students work creatively and innovate.
